Rather than following a prescribed aesthetic, each project responds to its architecture, location and the people who will inhabit it. The result is distinctive, enduring interiors characterised by warmth, restraint and a relaxed sense of luxury.

From substantial private residences and renovations to restaurants, cafés, salons and boutique hospitality environments, the studio works from initial concept through documentation, procurement and delivery, collaborating with architects, builders and specialist consultants where required.

International Influence

Melanie's design perspective has been shaped by more than three decades of experience across Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, bringing together a diverse understanding of architecture, craftsmanship, materiality and the way people live & work.

Australian design contributes an inherent sense of light, openness and relaxed living; British and European influences bring history, craftsmanship and an appreciation for layering old and new; while contemporary American design brings confidence, scale and individuality.

These influences are interpreted rather than replicated. There is no prescribed MTD aesthetic. Instead, each interior evolves from its architecture, location and the people who inhabit it, allowing the studio to create spaces that feel authentic to their setting while benefiting from a distinctly international point of view.

It is this combination of global perspective and highly personal design that gives MTD projects their individuality refined but never predictable, sophisticated without formality, and designed to remain relevant well beyond the trends of the moment.
